The Basics
The Intel Core 2 Duo processor has two computational execution cores in a single processor, providing greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:
This LightScribe DVD+/-RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.
Screen, Video & Audio
You'll enjoy razor-sharp graphics and widescreen movies with the 15.4-inch WXGA high-definition screen, which displays an 18 percent larger picture than standard 15-inch screens and offers up to an 18 percent improvement in contrast ratio. It has a widescreen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels--perfect for watching DVD movies the way they were meant to be seen. Video is powered by the Nvidia GeForce Go 7400 graphics card with 128 MB of dedicated video RAM as well as up to 256 MB of video RAM shared with the system memory. Nvidia's TurboCache feature increases the performance of this thin and light notebook PC without increasing its size or draining its battery. It's coupled with the PowerMizer 6.0 advanced power management technology, which significantly extends your notebook PC's battery life while minimizing the amount of heat it produces.
Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
The Intel PRO wireless LAN 3945ABG provides a tri-mode network connection (supporting 802.11a/b/g), with throughput up to 54 Mbps at 5 GHz (802.11a) and 2.4 GHz (802.11g). It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (though no standard PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. You get a good offering of connectivity options:
It also has an integrated 56K modem (V.90) and an RJ-45 LAN network port (for a 10/100 Ethernet connection to networks and DSL/cable modems).

Great Laptop, but HP quality problems
The laptop works great, BUT the 1st one I received had a bad video driver and I needed to get a replacement one. Now, 3 months later the battery will not charge and needs to be replaced. It's all under warranty, but the still a hassle. HP has chat available for support which is way superior than trying to deal with the phone with accents and all. Amazon has also been wonderful throughout this ordeal.
As for the laptop, it runs well, good display, speed.
Great, but some minnor issues
everyhing has been great about this pavilion. its really fast and very good for gaming.
i had some problems with the tv tuner in media center, but it works great in HP quickplay.
Vista some times fail when i unplug the USB remote control reciever.
its all i have to say, for the rest i recommend it a 100%, i thing its a really good choice considering the price
Everything I Wanted in a Notebook PC
My old Sony notebook, which I had used for 3 years for traveling and general use, was on its last legs, so I went shopping for a replacement. I have not really kept up with computer reviews as I used to years ago, so I just looked for a new notebook with the features I wanted and hoped the computer would be reliable and live up to expectations.
I ended up with the HP Pavilion dv6375us. I have only had it for one full day, but I have explored most of its features and found it to be a winner, at least for my particular needs. Overall, its construction seems solid and its appearance is fine, not too plasticky or fragile. The 15.4 inch screen has a widescreen configuration that provides plenty of space to show videos, pictures, and general files. The picture is clear and sharp, though I've had a little trouble figuring out the best viewing angle. The brightness does vary as I tilt the screen, but it's very easy to see from any reasonable angle, it just varies a bit.
The Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 gives a crisp feel of speed, and the 5400 rpm 160GB hard drive seems to load files quickly. The 160GB figure doesn't take into account the fact that there is a recovery partititon that takes up about 16GB or so, so you could recover your files without using a recovery disk. There is an option for deleting the recovery partitiion from the hard drive, to gain back the gigabytes that partition eats up.
The sound system is better than average for a notebook, since the computer has Altec Lansing speakers built in. They're small ones, of course, and there is no subwoofer, so bass is still lacking, but the sound is pretty decent.
One nice feature is a set of controls for volume, mute, and playing DVDs or CDS, right above the keyboard, so you don't have to use software for all of those functions if you don't want to. You can just press the mute button and instantly mute the sound, for example. Also, one feature I really like is that a small remote control comes with the computer, so you can control the playing of a DVD and some other functions, such as advancing the slides in a PowerPoint presentation.
And, to go one step further, in line with this computer being marketed as an "Entertainment" notebook, it comes with a TV tuner card that fits into the ExpressCard slot on the right side. That card comes with cables that let you connect to your cable TV service with coaxial cable, or to a satellite box with video cables, or even use a small, included, off-the-air antenna. I hooked that system up with no problems to my cable service, and, using the Windows Media Center feature of the Vista Home Premium operating system (included with the PC), I had no problems getting TV reception and recording and playing back programs using the digital video recorder functions. And, for that hookup, there is ANOTHER remote control -- a much bigger, full-size Windows Media Center remote. I have to say I am slightly confused as to which remote does what better, but both remotes worked fine. The big remote lets you select the TV channel guide, start and stop recording, playback, fast forward, etc. It has numbers to enter channel numbers, and other functions.
The touchpad is fairly standard; I like it better than some other touchpads I have used. The surface is very smooth. The feature I like best is that there is a vertical scroll area on the right, which lets you scroll your screen up and down, like the scroll wheel on a conventional mouse. That function works well, and is very convenient.
The computer is quite well-equipped with ports; there are 3 USB ports, a VGA-out port, firewire, audio 3.5mm ports for headphones and microphone, as well as an SPDIF audio port. Also, as I mentioned earlier, an ExpressCard slot. So far, the included TV tuner is the only thing I know that goes in that slot, but there must be other accessories available for it, either now or in the future. There is also a built-in media reader for SD cards, Memory Sticks, and other small media cards, but not for CompactFlash. There also is no PCI Card slot. But, with the USB ports, you can plug in a USB media reader if you need one for CompactFlash. There also is an S-video out port, so you can show a DVD or other video on a TV set, and not just on a computer monitor. That's a fairly rare feature, and nice to have.
The included DVD drive reads and writes and re-writes CDs and DVDs, including Dual Layer DVDs. It also has Lightscribe for putting monochrome graphics and text on Lightscribe CDs and DVDs. I played some DVDs, and they worked fine, with no pauses or stuttering. That drive is somewhat noisy with its whirring up to speed, but I don't think that's too unusual.
The included AC adaptor is a standard-sized power brick with cords going to the computer and the AC outlet. The included standard 6-cell battery does not have great endurance; I would say up to two hours, maybe. I have ordered an optional 12-cell battery so I can get longer use without plugging into the AC power.
Also, this notebook comes with nVidia GeForce Go 7400 graphics card, with 128MB graphics memory. This supposedly will give enhanced 3D performance for games. I'm not really a gamer, so I don't know how much difference that makes, but the graphics performance for DVD watching and normal screens has been quick and fine so far.
There is probably more "bloatware" included with the computer than most people would want, such as free trials for AOL, etc. It also has Microsoft Office 2007 installed in a 60-day trial version, which lets you pay to unlock the full version when the trial is done. Otherwise, Microsoft Works is included, as well as some graphics and other programs that I don't plan to use.
The built-in wireless networking worked fine with no problems so far, and there is a port for ethernet network connection also, as well as a modem for phone line connection.
All in all, I usually get a pretty accurate gut reaction to a new computer fairly fast, leading to me return them to the store on several occasions in the past. I plan to keep this one, though. This particular model has all the features and performance I need, and has a very nice appearance and feel, without breaking my budget. As of now, I highly recommend it.
